Introducing Dr. Jon Blackwell

Panhandle native

Dr. Jon Blackwell grew up in Panhandle, and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1993. He then went on to Abilene Christian University, where he graduated with honors earning a B.S. in Biology in 1997. Dr. Blackwell enjoyed his time at A.C.U., where he met his wife Heather, who grew up in Wellington. Dr. Blackwell then went on to Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic in 2000. Dr. Blackwell earned several awards while attending Parker College including the top anatomy award; Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universities, and graduated with honors in the top 10 of his class of almost 200 students.

Dr. Blackwell began practice in 2000 in New Braunfels working with Dr. Wes Stamps. Dr. Blackwell worked in New Braunfels for 3 years before deciding to return to the Panhandle. Dr. Blackwell states, “As a family, we just missed the Panhandle, and especially the people. Following the birth of our son Ryan in 2001, we felt a desire to return closer to family.  I always had the desire and intention on returning to the Panhandle so that I could help the people that shaped how I am today. I love the people of this region, and truly feel like I am home.” Dr. Blackwell returned to Amarillo, and began work with Amarillo Spine and Rehabilitation Center in December of 2003. Dr. Blackwell is excited to be working with Dr. Whitehead, and is also excited about the opportunity to give patients so many options for treatment under one roof. Dr. Blackwell states, “I love having the opportunity to provide in one office the type of spine care that patient’s truly need. With our physical therapy department, I have so many options at my disposal to offer our patients, and I know that our patients appreciate that, and I also know that they truly get better not just for now, but really can have a good quality of life for years to come.”

Dr Todd Asks some important questions of interest to Amarillo residents - Chiropractor Amarillo Dr Todd Asks...

Why is a "slipped disc" unlikely?
Separating each spinal vertebra is a disc. Its fibrous outer ring holds in a jelly-like material. Because of the way a disc attaches to the spinal bones above and below it, it can't actually "slip." However, a disc can bulge, tear, herniate, thin and collapse. But it can't slip.
What is the significance of "growing pains?"
Chiropractors know that aches or pains at any age mean something's not right. In fact, many children go through stages of growth without aches or pains. So while "growing pains" may be common, they're not normal. That's why our Amarillo chiropractic practice sees lots of children. A chiropractic checkup for your child can often help detect and correct problems that are more difficult to correct in Amarillo adults.
