Dr. Jon Blackwell

The road to chiropractic…

Dr. Jon Blackwell grew up in Panhandle, and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1993. He then went on to Abilene Christian University, where he graduated with honors earning a B.S. in Biology in 1997. Dr. Blackwell enjoyed his time at A.C.U., where he met his wife Heather, who grew up in Wellington. Dr. Blackwell then went on to Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic in 2000.

I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives!

Abilene Christian University is where I did a lot of growing up and really learned about myself. I majored in Biology, and my classmates were preparing to go on to medical school, dental school, veterinary school, or graduate school. I had many friends that were majoring in Bible, and were planning on becoming ministers and in some cases, missionaries where they would spend a great deal of their lives giving of themselves to people in countries that were a million miles away from Abilene, Texas.

I think I was like a lot of young college students; I had a lot of ideas in my head about what I thought I wanted to do with my life, but nothing that really set me on fire. I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives; to feel like I really had a purpose in what I was doing. Then, I had a number of people that began to mention chiropractic to me. This did intrigue me, so I set out to find out more and went to work in a busy chiropractic practice in Abilene. I began to see the real difference that chiropractic care made in people’s lives and I also became a chiropractic patient myself. The fire was lit!

Chiropractic Education

I grew up in Panhandle, Texas and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1993. While in Panhandle, I was very active in athletics playing football, basketball, running track, and also playing summer league baseball. I was class president and served in student council and was voted Mr. PHS my senior year. As I mentioned above, I went on to Abilene Christian University, where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 1997. While at ACU, I was involved in Gamma Sigma Phi Men’s Social Club as well as intramurals and Spring Break Campaign. I went on to Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas where I graduated in 2000 with honors. While I was at Parker College I was also involved in intramurals and won the Top Gun award which was awarded to the top anatomy student following the courses of Systemic Anatomy and Gross Anatomy. I was very interested in anatomy and physiology, so in addition to my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree, I was also awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Anatomy.

I began my chiropractic practice in New Braunfels, Texas where I practiced for three years. I was very fortunate to be able to work for Wes Stamps, DC and Werner Keisling, DC. Dr. Keisling was a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and celebrated his 50Th year of practice while I was working for him. He was a great mentor to me in the early part of my career, particularly with regard to the philosophy of chiropractic.

On a Personal Note…

While at ACU, I also met the love of my life, Heather and we were married in 1999. We have two boys, Ryan and Tate. Shortly after Ryan was born, we felt the call to come closer to home so that we could raise our family closer to home, so in 2003, I was fortunate to be able to go to work for Dr. Whitehead at Amarillo Spine and Rehab. This move was a true blessing in our life as we have been able to have our families close to us, while also being able to be part of such a tremendous practice. Under Dr. Whitehead’s leadership, I have been able to learn what being a chiropractor truly means, being a tool in God’s hands to restore health and function back to people in need. I have truly found my purpose.

Visit Precision Chiropractic'

Precision Chiropractic is a unique place where we use a team approach to focus on restoring health in as timely a manner as possible. This team approach is what really excites me as I have seen now so many cases where people were tired, frustrated, and ready to just literally give up, and then come here and get their lives back.
